Batumi boasts breathtaking natural beauty, with its stunning blend of mountain ranges and the sparkling sea. The combination of these two elements makes it a unique spot, somewhat reminiscent of Cape Town, where both the mountains and ocean create a perfect picturesque backdrop.

One of the top highlights of my trip was the cable car ride up to Anuria Mountain. The ride takes you 256 meters above sea level, offering panoramic views that will leave you in awe. The landscape that unfolds before you is simply breathtaking. On one side,  the endless blue of the sea stretches out, while on the other,  the majestic mountains surround you. Traditional Georgian Breads

While the views were incredible, the best part of my experience in Batumi was the food—specifically the bread. Georgia is known for its delicious and diverse bread offerings, and Batumi is the perfect place to experience them. The bread in Georgia is not just food; it’s a part of the culture. One of the most famous and beloved breads in Georgia is Khachapuri. It’s a deliciously filling bread stuffed with melted cheese, and often topped with an egg just before it finishes baking. The combination of rich, creamy cheese and a perfectly baked crust is extraordinary. Every bite is pure comfort, and it’s made fresh right when you order it, which only adds to its appeal.

More Delicious Georgian Breads

Another local favorite is Lobiani. This red bean-stuffed bread is simple yet flavorful. It comes in various shapes, such as round, square, or rectangular, making it not only tasty but also fun to look at. Lobiani is a perfect choice for anyone following a vegan diet, as it’s made with beans and contains no animal products. The beans are cooked to perfection and provide a hearty, satisfying filling. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a quick snack or a light meal while exploring the town.

In addition to Khachapuri and Lobiani, Batumi also offers Penovani, a flaky pastry dough filled with Imeretian cheese. Chefs often use this cheese,  similar to mozzarella, in Georgian salads or when making of Khachapuri. Locals often eat  the Penovani is a popular mid-day snack. It’s light, buttery, and absolutely delicious. If you’re a fan of pastries, Penovani should be on your list.
